GPS and GIS Mapping |
I use GPS units and GIS software to map the various features of a forest. I have access the latest aerial photography (2006,2007,2008). Accurate mapping can be attained using GPS to map features as forest trails, timber sale boundaries, property line fences, and deer stands. These can be placed on the aerial photo. Acreage accuracy is especially important when you are spending $200 - $300/acre in site prep and tree planting.
Numerous layers can be added such as topography, 100 year flood zones, soils, and various year photos can be added to these maps. |
